Week 11 is in the books and the top of the
standings have not changed much. Below that, well, that is a different story.
Most teams have reached the 60 games played mark, with Chicago (AL) still
trailing behind at 54. As was pointed out last week we are heading into
double-header season as the league as a
whole is still behind in games played, so there is still plenty of baseball yet
to be played.1911 Cleveland Naps
In the AL the A's still sit comfortably atop of the standings, now with an 8.0 game lead over Boston, but that is when things get interesting. Boston and Chicago have been scuffling over the past few weeks, putting them farther and farther behind Philadelphia, but giving the teams behind them Detroit and Cleveland, a chance to gather themselves and start to play better. Boston is still alone in second but only has a 1.0 game lead over third-place Chicago, while Detroit and Cleveland both sit one game behind Chicago, the Tigers leading the Naps by only a few percentage points. New York is alone in sixth place, but they have been scuffling too. Meanwhile, right behind them, Washington has been on a bit of a run themselves, having won seven of their last ten, leaving last place St. Louis in the dust and drawing to within 4.5 games of New York.
Pittsburgh continues to lead the NL,
constantly frustrating the second-place New York squad. The Giants continue to
whittle down the distance between them and first place, only to then turn
around and lose whatever gains they might have made. These two teams have
fourteen games remaining versus the other, so there are a lot of fireworks to
come out of the NL yet. The other hot team in the NL currently is Philadelphia
as they climbed up past St. Louis and now sit one game behind third-place
Chicago. St. Louis and Chicago have been
struggling recently and while none of these three teams may fighting for first
there will be plenty of excitement as they struggle for third.Cleveland Player/Manager

It wasn't that long ago that Brooklyn had a
chance to move into a tie for third place, but since then the wheels have
really fallen off and they now find themselves staying ahead of Cincinnati and
Boston. Cincinnati is a better team than what they have played so far and they
maybe finally be ready to start playing better, although we have seen spurts of
better play from them previously that never managed to make it stick. Boston
isn't the worst team in the whole league but they are pretty bad. They have
been shuffling players on and off the roster to see if they can put together a
winning combination, but nothing has really worked yet.
It's a long season. Every team has its ups
and downs, its winning streaks, and its losing streaks. Players do the same
thing - players can go on hot streaks and then follow that up with a cold
streak. Some players just play well no matter what happens, but some players can
never really get on track. It's all part of what makes a replay so interesting.
You get to see the whole thing play out, warts and all.
