Week 25 of the 1911 BBW replay is in the books and the only story remaining to be completed is whether Pittsburgh can hold onto its spot atop the NL standings. The Pirates have a magic number of five and they maintain a 4.0 game lead over second-place New York. These two teams play a makeup game on Monday, their final season meeting, and a Pittsburgh win would just about lock them into the top spot. The Pirates only have four games remaining as it is, while New York still has twelve remaining games to close out their season. The Giants are really going to have to get on an extended winning streak if they want to claim the title, but they have had trouble avoiding road bumps all season. They always seem to get good pitching, but sometimes the offense disappears. They may lead the NL in hitting and runs scored, but they tend to win big and lose close.
Philadelphia wrapped up the AL pennant over a week ago and they, just like every other team in both leagues, are resting regulars towards the end of the season so that they let some of their farmhands get in some appearances. Players accumulate a lot of bumps and bruises over the course of the season, so in Philadelphia's case, manager Connie Mack is providing some needed rest and recovery time before they head into the World Series.
The AL games will be over at the end of the upcoming Week 26 while the remaining NL games will spill over into the first half of Week 27. There are plenty of doubleheaders yet on the schedules in both leagues as teams wrap up their final series against their opponents. Can manager Fred Clarke drag his Pirates over the finish line?
